What better way to keep the kids active than to get them swimming. There are many pools and many swim classes for babies and children in Florence. See below for a list compiled by you moms! What is an “ACQUATIZZAZIONE” class? Well, if you have never taken a young child to the pool in Italy then you probably have no idea. Even if you are fluent in Italian! Acquatizzazione is a class open to babies from as young as 3 months all the way up to 4 years. And basically they are classes where children are not actually taught how to swim, but are just able to “get used to the water”. For the younger babies, a parent must accompany the child. But starting at around age 3, they usually do not need to be

accompanied.

SWIM CLASSES OR “CORSI DI NUOTO”, where the child is actually taught how to swim, do not usually begin until around age 4 (although this differs depending on the location).

What is a “ludoteca”?
A ludoteca is basically a place where you and your child can go to play and meet other children, participate in a workshop or (in some cases) borrow toys and books. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All toys you use must be put away when you are finished. Also, often times the small pieces to a game or a toy are held behind the counter by the staff, so if a toy looks like the pieces are missing, just ask, they probably have them stored somewhere for safe keeping.

Age: Most ludoteche are open to children from about 15 months up to ages 11 or 12
